Design Advantages

Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) Blower Control

Allows fine-tuned, adjustable airflow for precise negative-pressure enclosure maintenance without mechanical modification. Rated airflow typically achieved at approximately 40 Hz. 30-second controlled ramp-down protects motor life on shutdown.

H13 No-Separator (Mini-Pleat) HEPA Filter

Square HEPA element in a 304 stainless steel housing. System filtration efficiency ≥ 99.99%. No-separator mini-pleat construction maximizes effective media area (430 ft² / 40 m²) within the 24 × 24 × 11.5 in. envelope.

Washable Expanded-Metal Pre-Filter

High-porosity trapezoidal-cell expanded-metal ring at the air inlet blocks coarse particulate and maintenance debris. Adds only ≈ 0.08 in. w.g. (20 Pa) resistance while significantly extending HEPA service life. Included standard with every unit.

Dual 11.8 in. (300 mm) Duct Connections

Both inlet and outlet accept standard 11.8 in. duct collars with removable protective covers, simplifying connection to SAS tents, negative-pressure enclosures, glovebox exhausts, and process cell ventilation systems. Included standard: 32.8 ft (10 m) of 300 mm duct and one clamp.

Sealed Filter Housings — Positive-Latching Access Doors

Four threaded compression knobs seat the HEPA filter (lower position) and iodine adsorber (upper position). Dual multi-bolt sealed access doors maintain housing and filter-seal integrity. Gasket compression controlled to 40–60% for reliable bypass-leakage prevention.

Section 5 — Consumables

Replacement Filter Components & Consumables

All filter elements are field-replaceable consumables, available individually for ongoing maintenance and restocking.

Section 6 — Operation

Installation & Operation

6.1

Filter Installation

  • Confirm airflow direction arrows on each filter element match the arrows marked on the unit housing before installation.
  • Seat each filter using the four threaded compression knobs, tightening evenly on all four corners for a uniform gasket seal.
  • Gasket compression: maintain 40–60%. Do not over-compress. Replace any gasket showing damage or loss of resiliency before placing the unit in service.
  • Tighten access door fixing screws evenly to fully seat the door seal.
6.2

Routine Use

  • Monitor differential pressure gauge(s) daily. Replace affected filter when reading reaches ≈ 2× initial (clean) resistance, or immediately if HEPA gamma dose rate exceeds 250 µSv/h (25 mrem/h).
  • For nuclear service: maintain intake air relative humidity below 50% RH where possible. Add a supplemental dehumidification unit upstream if ambient humidity is higher.
  • Schedule periodic on-site inspection per facility radiological protection procedures.
6.3

Start-Up Procedure

  • Connect unit power plug to facility AC outlet using the supplied multi-conductor power cable. Power indicator lamp illuminates when energized.
  • Turn start switch to RUN for forward blower rotation, then gradually increase speed using the VFD speed control (clockwise = increase, counterclockwise = decrease).
  • VFD display shows frequency in Hz. Rated 700 CFM airflow typically achieved at ≈ 40 Hz.
  • To stop: return start switch to center (OFF) position. VFD executes a 30-second controlled ramp-down.
CAUTION: Adjust blower speed gradually. Abrupt speed changes may cause airflow transients that disrupt enclosure negative-pressure.
6.4

Filter Removal

  • Wear appropriate protective gloves before servicing filters.
  • Loosen compression knobs and remove HEPA and/or iodine adsorber element(s) from the internal filter rack.
  • Double-bag removed filter elements in sealed plastic immediately upon removal.
  • Handle and dispose of filters per facility radiological waste management procedures.
