Iodine Air Systems tests customers' activated carbon samples on its own equipment, independent of the carbon supplier. Two tests are offered: methyl iodide removal efficiency on our methyl iodide test rig (standard condition 30 °C, 95% RH), and non-radioactive cyclohexane adsorption on our cyclohexane test system. Price, turnaround and the sample quantity we need are confirmed in writing before you ship.

Methyl iodide is the hardest form of radioiodine for carbon to capture, and high humidity makes capture harder still. Physical tests — iodine number, CCl₄ activity, density, hardness — tell you about the base carbon, but only a methyl iodide test at high humidity shows how well the impregnated carbon will actually remove organic radioiodine. That is why it is the reference challenge in ASTM D3803 and in NRC Regulatory Guide 1.52 surveillance programs.
