Choose the configuration that matches your project's airflow and carbon bed depth requirements.
↑ indicates difference from standard configuration. Highlighted cells show IAS-NC500-HI-CUSTOM-specific values. Choose standard IAS-NC700-HI for higher throughput at lower cost. Choose IAS-NC500-HI-CUSTOM when 500 CFM / 16-inch carbon bed / fold-down plenums / specific dimensional envelope are design-basis requirements.
The deeper carbon bed directly improves radioiodine capture efficiency under operational conditions.
Radioiodine capture by activated carbon is a kinetic process — the longer contaminated air is in contact with the adsorbent, the higher the removal fraction. The 16-inch bed at 500 CFM provides 0.25 seconds of contact time, approximately 1.8× longer than the standard 11.5-inch bed at higher airflow.
Nuclear-grade impregnated activated carbon's iodine removal efficiency degrades with high relative humidity. Longer residence time partially compensates for humidity-induced efficiency reduction, making the deeper bed configuration more robust in humid facility environments (>50% RH).
Noble gases (Xe-133, Kr-85) are more challenging to adsorb than methyl iodide due to weaker van der Waals interactions with the carbon surface. The deeper 16-inch bed provides additional residence time that improves noble gas capture, particularly relevant in reprocessing and fuel handling applications.
Fold-down plenums provide a flat rectangular face connection compatible with rectangular ductwork runs common in existing nuclear facility HVAC systems, eliminating the need for round-to-rectangular transition adapters required when using standard circular duct collar connections.
The included VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) allows operators to dial in exactly 500 CFM — or any other setpoint — without mechanical modification. This is particularly useful when the unit is integrated into an existing negative-pressure enclosure with a specific design airflow requirement.
For custom configurations, IAS manufactures a sample unit first (approximately 5 weeks) and ships it for your team's physical inspection and performance verification before the balance of 7 units are built. This ensures the delivered units match your design basis before production commitment.
First unit manufactured, DOP tested, and shipped for your team's physical inspection and performance verification. Review and approve before balance is committed to production.
Following sample unit approval, the remaining 7 units are manufactured and shipped as a batch. DOP test reports and material certificates (304 SS) provided for each unit.
ASME N509/N510 in-place leak test documentation, Seismic Category I, or 10 CFR 50 Appendix B QA records available per-project. Contact engineering team before order placement to confirm scope.
